“Snails need their calcium!”

2025

Cement, plastic umbrella

Dimensions: 80cm x 80cm x 60cm

This piece draws from a childhood memory—walking home from school with an umbrella, gently collecting snails along the way. It reflects the emotional refuge I found in slowing down, embracing stillness amidst the rush of daily life. Through this simple ritual, I resisted the pressures of a fast-paced world, finding calm in the quiet. The title references the 'urbanisation of snails'—a nod to how these creatures have adapted to city life, extracting calcium for their shells from concrete surfaces. It’s a subtle commentary on resilience and adaptation in both nature and ourselves.
